For this piece, I wanted to explore architecture on a greater scale by looking at public and commercial spaces, and how I could adapt it to my inquiry, how can horizontal and vertical elements juxtapose to impact the appearance and functionality of an architectural design. I had the idea of creating a creative compound, so to speak, which incorporates a library, a museum, a café, and a main lobby, and then found a way to use horizontal and vertical elements to be both functional to the purpose of the building as well as distinguishable to the eye based on the spaces services.
For this piece, I stuck with my typical material of pen, however I wanted to mix things up by using red rather than black to support the idea of this piece still being in a planning, in-process stage. This piece relies entirely on two point perspective, so I had to do some practicing and measuring to figure out the proper dimensions and how to translate them onto my paper.
Originally, I had hoped to do an in-depth elevation of my design, however I found this did not show off the complexity of the design, so I began to move toward creating a realistic perspective drawing. These initial ideas inspired me to combine them in a new fashion, different from my past works which have always been 'finished.' I experimented with layering lines in SketchUp, in my sketchbook, and then on a first draft, which allowed me to build a basis of what I wanted and allowed the rest to be experimentation between what looked good and emphasized the right elements.
