Architecture Investigation 2

Architecture Investigation 2

Black Micron Pens and Colored Pencil

18" x 24"

Artist Statement

For this piece, I wanted to further develop the design from my previous investigation while still focusing on taking a different approach to reflect my inquiry, how can horizontal and vertical elements juxtapose to impact the appearance and functionality of an architectural design. To show more of the complexity of my design I decided to draw the buildings using scrappy two point perspective. Additionally, similar to my previous investigation, I wanted to depict how much of the negative space from the paper is left visible through the horizontal and vertical elements by adding the contrasting red circle.

For this piece, I already had a fairly set plan of how I wanted my drawing to look, and black micron pens proved to be the best fit as I wanted to create dramatic contrast between the black ink, the red of circle, and the white of the paper.

From the start I had a fairly set plan of what I wanted to draw and how I wanted to present it as it is based off of my last sustained investigation. To add more interest to this piece I decided to draw using two point perspective, although this required a lot of sketching and planning in order to ensure the proportions were correct. In the end, the perspective became more of a general outline and I decided to freehand the rest of the piece.
