Architecture Investigation 4
Black Micron Pens and Photoshop

Artist Statement
For this piece, I explored my inquiry of how horizontal and vertical elements juxtapose to impact the appearance and functionality of an architectural design through a residential design. I wanted to incorporate these elements across the entirety of the home, however also wanted to juxtapose the two components of the home by adding contrasting yet cohesive lines and colors.
The design originated in SketchUp, where I continuously reworked my original idea until I had a final design. To express my work as a finalized piece, I decided to show off the two main sides of the home that best reflect its horizontal and vertical elements, which I drew with pen on paper. Once done, I found the contrasting black and white of the house was somewhat swallowed by the white paper, which led me to utilizing Photoshop and adding a solid color background that emphasized my design.
This piece required much revision led by constant new ideas and issues, which SketchUp made fairly simple. My original idea was having modular buildings of the same dimensions, shape, and general appearance that were somehow connected, which eventually led me to my final design. Throughout I experimented with different color and material variations via SketchUp, and finally with Photoshop as well when finalizing my piece.
Ideas: Incorporate less emphasized horizontal/vertical elements to reflect more common, residential design.
Materials: Black micron pens and Photoshop
Processes: Incorporated horizontal/vertical elements across entire house to maintain cohesiveness, contrasted components of house using different colors and line orientations.
