Time Capsule Drawings

In this project, the object was to see our improvement as an artist from the beginning of this year to the end of this year. In September, we were told to create a self-portrait, an object, and a corner of our room with no prior instruction. During the course of the year, we remade all of these things with the technics and skills provided and in June, we go to compare the two, and saw the difference. You can clearly see that my first drawing was a self-portrait, my second drawing was a mug, and my third was the corner of my kitchen. Later on, I drew my historical self-portrait, three angles of my shoe, and the hallway of my high school. The only tools I used for these were pencils and colored pencils.

Some elements of art that I used included texture and line. While creating my self-portrait, texture and line were very important. This also applies to my hallway drawing and my shoe for they both mainly relied on how accurate my lines were. Texture was used for my face, my hair, and my dress, and lines were used for the dimensions of my face, my hallway direction, and my sneakers design. Some principles of design that I used included unity and emphasis. Unity was important for my hallway drawing for everything I added needed to make sense for the picture, and for it as a whole. Placement of these items was very important for the unity of this picture as well. Unity of details, flooring, windows and more made the picture whole and unified as one, so to be recognized as our high school. This is why unity is so important and this is how I used it. Emphasis is very important as well, seeing as this was the main difference between my before and after of my self-portrait. In my first drawing, I barely added any shading, and my drawing appeared to be very flat. With experience, in my historical self-portrait, I added shading under my eyes, near my nose, and anywhere where my face showed depth. This little detail made my whole drawing seem so much more realistic, and I'm glad that I used it.

As I mentioned before, my first object is a mug that I found around my house, and the corner of the room was my kitchen. I am very proud of my self-portrait. It definitely took the most time out of anything I did this year, but I think it turned out to be one of the best. The shading and the spacing between my features were very on point, and I'm very proud of it. The main thing I struggled with during all of these was time management. I, myself, take my time while creating pencil drawings because I always want it to be the best that I can make it and finding that time to draw detail was very difficult. To be honest, I wouldn't change anything about my drawings. I truly feel that I did my best with each of these drawings and I'm very proud of all of them.
