In this project, I decided to create a piece showing the stress and anxiety teens get from decision making and choices. I believe that teens have an incredible amount of pressure and stress from society to make good decisions. I wanted to create a visual showing people how we need to lay back and trust teenagers to make decisions for their own needs and good. This relates to my life because as a current student, I feel like sometimes this can feel very overwhelming, and this subject needs to be recognized.

In my project, I used a scale of different shades of charcoal, including white. I decided to choose charcoal because it's one of my favorite materials to use when creating art, and in my opinion, the value that charcoal gives is wonderful.

As you can see, in this project I mainly used value and texture to create principles of design such as emphasis and balance. Value and Texture can be shown throughout the entire piece and is crucial to making this piece. You can see these elements when creating the detail in the grass, or even on the road. It's what helps people to clearly determine the difference between the road and the grass is without hesitation. You can also see the texture and value of the girl's hair. These elements help the hair to look realistic, and to help the viewer picture this piece as being more realistic than abstract. Little details like these can be key to making a piece "come together" and for me, it is one of the most important things for my artwork to include. Emphasis and Balance are also evident in this piece. Balance is shown with the symmetry of the overall piece, and Emphasis is shown with the girl in the middle. These are important to include because it draws the attention of the viewer what needs to be focused on, the girl. Without the symmetry or emphasis, it would become less clear to the viewer what they were trying to focus on. This project was one of the hardest projects to get one idea for. When this project was first introduced to me, I had many, and I didn't know which to choose. My project ended up evolving from a chaotic monopoly board to a simple road splitting in two. My next steps could be to add more value overall to this piece since there is a lot of the same shade of gray is used, but overall I'm satisfied with my piece.
