Inclusion Design

In this assignment, I decided to represent an image of a blind person being read to. I wanted to show inclusivity and the bond that is formed when someone reads to you. I, personally, don't know anyone who is blind, but I have an idea of how we can include people of disabilities, into the community. When someone reads to you, the words create images in your mind and I can imagine that a blind person would be able to "see" through hearing the story.

I decided to use graphite pencils. I used 2B and HB. I wanted to use these materials because they were convenient and I thought that the simplicity of the work, would help the audience center on the close bond between the two people.

In my piece of work, used line and shape, to create emphasis. Without the line and shape used in my work, you would've never put it together what the piece symbolized. By keeping the piece simple, and using the lines of the floor to direct the audience's eye to put an emphasis on the two people and what they are sharing, and the intimacy of this action. Like most of my pieces, coming up with an idea changed a lot during this process. I knew I wanted to create something that was moving and easily relatable, but I just couldn't "place my finger" on a single idea. My next step towards this project could be to add color. But besides this, I am satisfied with my work.
