Asteroids in the sky
9 X 12''
In my project, I was inspired to paint asteroids in the sky. I've always been interested in space, and when I saw the ink drops I immediately thought that I could make something visually interesting, while expressing my passion. In the artwork, the sky takes place deep in space, where you can find the three asteroids, but the ground in which the viewer is in, appears to be simple and earth-like.
In this project, I mainly used water colors. This was different than most of my work since I'm a "realistic" artist and love pencil drawings, but I wanted to try something different in an area that i'm not completely comfortable with. Abstract painting was really good for me, and was actually a lot of fun. Being able to "let go" of my perfectionism when doing art was relaxing and I definitely want to try this area again.
In my project, the most used element of art and principle of design that I used was Color and movement. The color of this painting is very bold and bright, which grabs the attention of others to this specific piece of art. The movement in this art is the asteroids crashing through space, as you can see the red and orange glare flying through the sky. My project evolved a little bit. When I first painted the art, it wasn't as blocky and abstract as I would've liked it to be. When i was done, I went back over and painted small strokes over all of the colors to give it a very "unrealistic" look. My next steps would probably be to add more shading and highlights to make it more unified and put together, but overall I'm very satisfied with my piece.
