Give Others a Chance to Fly

6X8''

In this project we had to create a visual, showing teenagers that being an organ donor would be greatly appreciated and recognized. In my artwork, I decided to use the idea of a dragonfly to represent organ donation. Doing my research, I found that the dragonfly can represent change, freedom, and happiness; things that people give when they are organ donors. I used colors of blue, green, and purple because these are some of my favorite colors, and in my opinion, they make me feel reassured and relaxed. Perfect for incorporating into my piece.

I used charcoal, as well as just a regular graphite pencil and colored pencils. Charcoal was used for the background, pencil was used for the hands, and the colored pencils were used for anything in color. The reason why I made the dragonfly in color and the hands in black and white was because the dragonfly represented the happiness being donated to the needed.

In this project, I used many processes of elements and principles to create my piece of work. You can see that I used value when creating the hands, as well as the background. This was used for contrast and detail so when the viewer analyzes my project, it is clear what they are looking at. Another element I used was color. I used color in my project because I wanted to incorporate emphasis in my work. By using color on top of a black and white piece, it emphasizes the subject that matters and stands out. Like most of my previous projects, it was difficult for me to come up with an idea. I was originally going to just have a hand reaching from the darkness, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to do. If I had a next step, it would be to go back and add more value to what I already have. I feel like my project is still in the same gray area, and I would probably change it.
