Elements and Principles of Design Diptych

In this project, I decided to create full pieces of artwork of representations of movement in space, and pattern in form. In the "movement in space" piece of art, I drew spheres in an orbit motion, with a dark blue background. In the pattern in form piece of art, I drew cubes with even spacing, size, and colors between all of them to make the pattern clear. I decided to do these ideas because they were simple, and I love the colors I chose.

In this project, I used colored pencils for the color, and charcoal for the background of my art, and the spheres in the other box. I chose charcoal instead of pencil because, in my opinion, charcoal shows more value and depth to a piece of artwork. Also, the major reason why these pieces are connected is because of my color choice; both pieces of art have the colors blue, green, light blue, and dark purple.

In this project, I clearly used movement, shown in space, and pattern showed through form. In my first piece of art, I used space to show movement by spacing the spheres in an "orbit" motion. This helps the viewer to see that the spheres are moving in a circle or oval, by showing this perspective. In my second picture, I showed pattern in form by creating multiple cubes. Each cube has its own color, but colors that are repeated at least once already in another cube. The size of the cubes also varies between 1.5 inches and 2 but again, there are multiple of each kind. Each cube is in the same direction and is shown in the same angle to highlight that pattern. One thing that evolved in my art, was the depth and boldness. At first, my artwork was very light, but it did show more detail. By going back and making the colors bolder, although the colors were more evident, the detail was ruined. If I could take a next step, it would be to have a new idea and start fresh. I wasn't very satisfied with this piece of work, and I think by having a more creative and original idea, it would've had a stronger start and finish.
