Diagonal negative space leaves

Graphite, Colored pencil, gel pen, on mixed media paper

7''x10''

The ideas that are apparent in my negative space leaves drawing are that I kept the leaves negative and the background is not negative space. This project relates to my life because I found the leaves in my backyard. This piece of art was made using mixed media paper because I didn't have bristol at the time and I drew the leaves from the paper they were taped on too and went over it with a black gel pen and I used a ruler to create the lines for the background and then colored them in with colored pencil. I experimented with shading with colored pencils in this piece and also space because it is a negative space drawing. My project evolved from just a couple sketched leaves with graphite pencil to what it is now with the color and outlined leaves. My next steps could be making a more complex background with a different pattern and maybe using some other materials like markers or watercolor.
