Maine Duck Stamp

Peaceful Swim

Colored pencil

9"x12"

The main idea that guided my work was the prompts given for the duck stamp and from there I was able to create the piece that I ended up with at the end. To create the piece of the American Black Duck I used a piece of bristol board which was 9"x12" and I used graphite to sketch the duck out and then used a watercolor wash using brown watercolor overtop of my sketch and once that dried I set it under a packet of paper to flatten it out. I then went in with the prisma color pencils that were provided and used those to create the duck. For the water I used watercolor again because I wanted to change up the materials. I researched what the American black duck looked like and how they differ between male and female and I ended up deciding on a male duck which has a yellow beak as opposed to a more olive toned beak. During this project I got to experiment more with colored pencils which was fun and a different material than I was used too since I usually use acrylic when creating art on my own. I ended up doing more than one original duck sketch to come up with one that I was happy with.
