Duality

In progress sugar container

In progress

In process

Glazed before firing

To start this project I began thinking of things that fit the duality theme of the project, and I immediately thought of milk and sugar, a classic combo used in coffee, and I then knew I wanted to create milk and sugar containers. The process for both of them was the same, I used coils as my technique and I began by flattening out clay for the bases and I began coiling and building them up from there. For the sugar container, I made lid using a slab and a little rolled up ball of clay for the lid handle. For the milk container, I rolled out a slab and cut it into a rectangular shape for the handle and I scratched and scored it on. I then used my hands to pinch a spout on the opposite side. Then I set them out to be bisque fired. Once they were fired, I used orange and yellow glaze to glaze them, I did orange on the outside, and yellow on the inside, and again I did three coats of both colors. FInally I set them out to be glaze fired. (the project has not been glaze fired yet.)Â
