Final Product

To start in this piece I originally picked the element I wanted to work with which was earth, and how I could incorporate that into something functional. I knew it would be have to be small since I was only able to work with three pounds of clay. I ultimately decided on a planter bvecause I knew it would be something I could complete with the amount of clay given and I could complete it in a timely manner. Once my desing was done I got to work. I flattened a small chunk of clay which was my base and then began building up the planter itself. I used the coiling technique which was the easiest one to create the pot. I began coiling up and smoothing the clay as I went. Once I was happy with the size of the planter I waited until the bottin was leather hard and I poked holes using one of the poiinty tools in the classroom to allow or drainage when the pot was full. I then made a little plate using the leftover clay that I flattened out and then added a little rim too using the silver smoothing tools. I finished the whole thing by making sure everything was smooth and connected and then I set it out to be bisque fired. Once it was fired I picked out the glaze I wanted to use which ended up being PC-59 or deep firebrick and I applied three coats to both the plate and the pot and set it out to be glaze fired.
