Duck Stamp

Flying Pintail

"9x 12"

Graphite, colored pencil, and water color on water color paper

I started this project by studying the Northern Pintail Duck, a native to the north east. The information I found helped my artwork a small amount but helped me learn a lot about the bird.

I used graphite to sketch out the bird design then after I was satisfied I used watercolor and colored pencils to color and add detail to the duck. Lastly I cut out the duck from its original paper and glued in onto a new background I created also with watercolor

After creating the duck I had a self discussion about what I was going to do about the background, I first wanted to create a marsh wetland area then I decided on a single color background with a fade of gray.

I learned a lot about the Northern Pintail by the most shocking fact was that these ducks were omnivores.
