Sustained Investigation #3

Paper Wisteria

" 9 x" 1.5 x 1.5"

Bristol board, water color paint, wire, cutting tool, photoshop

This art was independent studies #3 in 3D design, the inquiry question was, how can I show natural plants through unnatural materials.

The materials I used were Bristol board, cutting tool, aluminum wire, photoshop, and water color.

In this artwork, I started by thinking of some new ideas and going through some older ideas I had. Once I had settled on an idea, I stared to work in photoshop to create the template that the cutting tool will cut. once I had that down, I started creating the sheets of Bristol board that will eventually become the petals. I created the board by using watercolor on both sides of a sheet of Bristol board. After the sheets had dried, I fed them into the cutting machine/tool, which proceeded to cut out all the petals. After the petals were cut out, I used a small needle to create hols in one end of the petals and threaded a thin wire through that hole to attaché it to them main stem of the flower. That main stem I created by twisting the thicker wire together and adding a bend to it to allow it to flow like the actual wisteria flower would.
