Teacher - Mrs Wilson and Miss Parlane
Gym days - Wednesday and Friday
In Literacy this term, we will continue with our class Bug Club texts. This term will be a focus on fiction and drawing inferences from fiction texts. We will also start to use evidence and quotes from the text in our comprehension answers.
Writing focus this term will be non-fiction and linked to our Natural Disasters topic. We have already started practical science experiments as part of our Natural Disasters topic and used this experience to support us in our non-fiction writing.
Weekly grammar lessons are supporting us in our extended writing also. Daily spelling practice is supporting us to learn and apply spelling rules in our extended writing pieces.
In Numeracy this term, our main focus will be Multiplication and Division. We will be focussing on quick and accurate recall of Multiplication and Division facts up to the 10th multiplication table. We will be learning to multiply and divide whole numbers by multiples of 10. We will also be learning to multiply and divide whole numbers by a single digit.
In our Beyond Number topic, we will be exploring 2D and 3D shapes and exploring Angles. This will involve identifying and classifying shapes and angles.
Our IDL focus this term is Natural Disasters.
We completed our THINK/PUZZLE/EXPLORE sheets to hep shape this topic.
We started off by experimenting and making an actual Volcano in trios.
We have really enjoyed reading Bug Club texts “Mary Anning” and “Death of the Dinosaurs” this term. We have been working on finding key information in these texts to support us to answer comprehension questions. We are beginning to meet our Literacy targets for this term by finding and using information from these texts. A focus is to add more details to our answers.
Weekly Spelling words go home in a jotter on a Monday. They should be returned the following Monday, even if Homework hadn’t been completed. This means the children can add in their new group words to their homework jotter.
Group Reading for Fluency novels are also sent home. Please read at home, even a few pages per evening.
We have worked hard on our topic of Place Value, ensuring secure understanding of the value of digits, particularly in larger numbers.
