What a quick and busy month it has been, yet again, in Primary 3H! Here are some snippets of the learning during November.
Our Primary 3 pupils were delighted to receive their Book Bug Bags this month, filled with exciting new stories to explore. To celebrate, they enjoyed a wonderful shared-reading session with our Primary 5 buddies before parents were invited in to share the stories with their child. These events aimed to spark a love of reading and created a warm, supportive learning experience for everyone involved.
Some Primary 3 pupils had a fantastic time taking part in the Country Dance Festival at the Albert Halls in Stirling. They represented the school brilliantly, showcasing their hard work, rhythm and teamwork as they performed each dance with confidence and big smiles. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Scottish culture, and we are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and achievement.
Our Primary 3 pupils have been working incredibly hard in preparation for this year’s Nativity performance. From learning their lines to perfecting singing, playing instruments and performing actions, they have shown wonderful dedication, teamwork, and enthusiasm. We are very proud of their efforts and can’t wait to share their festive performance with our school community.
Primary 3 have been strengthening their number skills by practising counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s. Through interactive games, rhythm activities and hands-on tasks around the classroom, pupils are becoming more confident with skip-counting and recognising number patterns. Their enthusiasm for numeracy is evident as they build these important early numeracy skills.
Primary 3 have been busy exploring right angles this month with a fun and active classroom hunt. Pupils searched high and low for examples of right angles in everyday objects, using their angle checkers to test what they found. This hands-on activity helped them deepen their understanding of shapes and angles while enjoying a lively and engaging maths lesson.
Primary 3 have been busy exploring a variety of exciting topics this month! We are looking forward to another fun and active term full of learning and creativity!
In Maths, we have been working with numbers to 1000, practising counting, ordering and simple addition and subtraction. We have had a strong focus on being able to count in 2s, 5s, 10s and 100s. Through our directional vocabulary lessons, we have been using phrases like “clockwise”, “anti-clockwise”, “quarter turn”, “half turn” and “full turn” so far to give and follow instructions.
We have been learning about Scottish Country Dancing in PE since we came back from our holidays. We have been practicing traditional dance steps, moving in time to music and working together with a partner or as a group.
This term, Primary 3 will be using Pie Corbett’s Talk for Writing approach to become confident and creative storytellers. The children will begin by learning a model text through actions and storytelling, helping them to understand story structure, language patterns, and key vocabulary.
Once they knew the story inside out, they will look to change parts of it. With lots of shared writing, discussion, and imagination, the pupils will plan and write their own festive tales filled with snowflakes, reindeer, and Christmas cheer!
We enjoyed learning about Halloween traditions, creating spooky crafts and creating a variety of emotions on Halloween pumpkins.
We also learned about how to keep ourselves safe at our whole school assembly. Mrs Dawson shared lots of good safety tips, especially for anyone who will be guising on the 31st.

This term, we have been revising 2D and 3D shapes along with their properties, which is one of our key Numeracy/Maths targets. We are making great progress and demonstrating a strong understanding of these concepts.
At the moment, we are exploring tessellation and tiling using two shapes. We've enjoyed experimenting with different combinations and creating a variety of patterns.
In Numeracy, we’ve been developing our understanding of whole numbers by exploring the relationship between digits, their place, and their value. We've used a variety of engaging activities and games to help us build and extend this knowledge.
Using iPads has been a highlight—we’ve enjoyed reinforcing our learning through interactive games on Topmarks, MathsFrame, and Wordwall. We’ve also taken part in activities using practical materials, and worked on the layout of our work in our jotters during written tasks.
This term, our class novel has been Matilda by Roald Dahl. We selected it to complement our IDL topic, which focuses on Rights and Responsibilities and the UNCRC charter.
Our writing activities have been based on the novel. So far, we have written character descriptions of Matilda, Miss Trunchbull and Mr. Wormwood. Moving forward, we will be creating diary entries from Matilda’s perspective, reflecting on whether her rights have been respected and exploring how she feels.
We have been learning about symbols and beliefs in various religions around the world this term. We have been fortunate enough to have visits to a local church and a mosque to learn more about Christianity and Islam.
To deepen our understanding of genetic inheritance, we invited a group of S6 pupils from Stirling High School to join us for a hands-on session. Together, we explored chromosomes, how different combinations work, and the traits they produce. Using these patterns, we created a “Reebop baby” based on chromosomes from both a mum and dad.
