Gym days - Monday and Tuesday
Outdoor Learning - Wednesday
Numeracy and Maths
In Numeracy, Primary 3 have been learning how to add 2-digit numbers using an empty number line. This strategy helps children to break numbers into smaller, manageable parts and build confidence with mental addition.
We practised making “jumps” along the number line, adding tens first and then ones. For example, when adding 34 + 25, we might jump +20 and then +5 to reach the final answer. This supports children in understanding how numbers work, rather than just memorising methods.
Using the empty number line has helped us develop our confidence, accuracy and flexibility when solving addition problems. The class have been working hard to explain their thinking and share different strategies with each other.
Literacy and English
This term, Primary 3 will be exploring our exciting topic of Ancient Egypt. The children will learn about daily life, pyramids, pharaohs, and the process of mummification. We will be developing our research skills by creating simple fact files, using child-friendly sources such as websites, books and videos to find key information.
We encourage pupils to share any books, videos or interesting facts they discover at home to support their learning.
IDL - Ancient Egyptians
Primary 3 have been learning about the importance of the River Nile in Ancient Egypt. We explored how the river was essential for everyday life, providing water, helping crops to grow, and supporting communities in a hot, dry climate.
To bring our learning to life, we created our own dioramas showing the River Nile and the surrounding land. We included features such as the river itself, fertile farmland, desert areas, and homes, helping us to understand why people settled near the Nile.
Through this creative activity, we developed our understanding of how the Nile supported farming, transport and daily life in Ancient Egypt. It was fantastic to see everyone’s creativity and effort, with each model showing thoughtful details linked to our learning.
Health and Wellbeing
This term, Primary 3 have been learning about families as part of our RSHP lessons. We explored how all families are different and special in their own way. Children shared ideas about who is important to them and the people who care for them.
Through discussion and activities, we have been learning that families can look different, but all families should be caring, supportive and help us feel safe. This links to our learning about respect, kindness and understanding others.
We also enjoyed creative activities such as drawing and talking about our own families, helping us celebrate what makes each of us unique.
This learning is part of Scotland’s RSHP programme, which supports children to build positive relationships and develop social and emotional wellbeing.

After our amazing class trip into Stirling town centre, we had some excellent ideas about what the city has to offer for fun, shops, historical places and transport links. We then learned about how to use persuasive language and created an information leaflet to persuade others to visit Stirling.
IDL - Scottish Landmarks
We made some places in Stirling out of junk materials to create a 3D map of our town.
We explored some other well known Scottish landmarks like The Kelpies, the Forth Rail Bridge and the Glenfinnen Viaduct, then attempted to create pictures from line drawings and water colours.
Numeracy and Maths
In numeracy lessons, we have been using concrete materials such as counters, base ten materials, and numicon shapes to help us understand how to multiply by 3, 4 and 10. By building equal groups and making repeated addition patterns, the children are developing a deeper understanding of how multiplication and division works.
We have also been practising how to solve word problems by carefully reading each question, identifying the key information and deciding which operation to use. The children are learning to explain their reasoning and show their working clearly.
In maths lessons, we have been learning to tell the time, focusing on o’clock, half past and quarter past. We have also begun to solve simple time interval problems, helping the children to work out how much time has passed between two given times.

This strategy is helping them build confidence, accuracy and a deeper understanding of number.
Primary 3 have been busy learning to write their own Christmas stories using Pie Corbett’s Talk for Writing approach. The children began by learning a model story through actions and storytelling, before exploring the key features and planning their own festive versions. They have loved innovating characters and settings, and their growing confidence as young writers is shining through in their imaginative Christmas tales.
What a quick and busy month it has been, yet again, in Primary 3H! Here are some snippets of the learning during November.
Our Primary 3 pupils were delighted to receive their Book Bug Bags this month, filled with exciting new stories to explore. To celebrate, they enjoyed a wonderful shared-reading session with our Primary 5 buddies before parents were invited in to share the stories with their child. These events aimed to spark a love of reading and created a warm, supportive learning experience for everyone involved.
Some Primary 3 pupils had a fantastic time taking part in the Country Dance Festival at the Albert Halls in Stirling. They represented the school brilliantly, showcasing their hard work, rhythm and teamwork as they performed each dance with confidence and big smiles. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Scottish culture, and we are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and achievement.
Our Primary 3 pupils have been working incredibly hard in preparation for this year’s Nativity performance. From learning their lines to perfecting singing, playing instruments and performing actions, they have shown wonderful dedication, teamwork, and enthusiasm. We are very proud of their efforts and can’t wait to share their festive performance with our school community.
Primary 3 have been strengthening their number skills by practising counting forwards and backwards in 2s, 5s and 10s. Through interactive games, rhythm activities and hands-on tasks around the classroom, pupils are becoming more confident with skip-counting and recognising number patterns. Their enthusiasm for numeracy is evident as they build these important early numeracy skills.
Primary 3 have been busy exploring right angles this month with a fun and active classroom hunt. Pupils searched high and low for examples of right angles in everyday objects, using their angle checkers to test what they found. This hands-on activity helped them deepen their understanding of shapes and angles while enjoying a lively and engaging maths lesson.
