Teacher - Miss Fitzpatrick
Gym days - Thursday
Outdoor Learning - Friday morning
We have been really enjoying our Scotland topic! Have a look at some of the activities that we completed in class!
We were learning the skill of weaving and used this to create our own tartan art. We chose two colours and had to remember "under, over, under, over". This proved to be quite tricky but we had good fun and we were very proud of our finished pictures!
To go alongside learning our Scottish poem 'Mince and Tatties' by JK Annand, we created our own mince and tatties art using paper plates, cotton balls and crepe paper.
We focused on the Scots language and learned the names of many animals in Scots.
We also looks at Scots adjectives and used these to write a sentence in Scots about our chosen animals.
Children will develop their understanding of grammar and sentence structure. The children will explore different parts of a sentence, including nouns, adjectives and verbs, learning how to identify and use these accurately in their own writing. Through a range of engaging activities, they will practice choosing appropriate words to make their sentences clearer and more interesting.
The children will also be introduced to instructional writing, where they will learn how to follow and create simple sets of instructions. They will focus on sequencing steps in the correct order and using clear, purposeful language, including action verbs and time words, to support the reader.
Learners will develop their numeracy skills through a concrete–pictorial–abstract approach. Children will begin by using hands-on resources such as Numicon, cubes and number lines to explore and practise different addition strategies. As their understanding develops, they will move on to pictorial representations before applying more abstract methods, including bridging through 10. This progression supports children in building a secure understanding of number and confidence in problem solving.
The children will also explore fractions, focusing on recognising and finding halves and quarters of shapes and numbers through practical activities, visual models and simple calculations.
Children will develop their health and wellbeing through a range of physical and classroom-based learning experiences. In physical education, the children will take part in gymnastics, focusing on developing balance, jumps and simple rolls. Through structured activities, they will build strength, coordination and confidence while learning how to move safely and with control.
The children will also explore key aspects of health and wellbeing, including healthy eating and ways to keep themselves safe. This learning will help them to understand how to make positive choices and develop skills to support their overall wellbeing.
Learners will take part in an interdisciplinary learning topic focused on Scotland. The children will explore maps to develop their understanding of Scotland and its place within the wider world, while building confidence in using simple geographical language. They will also learn Scottish vocabulary, with a particular focus on animals, through a range of engaging activities. The class will enjoy exploring Scots through books, songs and poetry, helping to develop an appreciation of Scottish culture and language. As part of the topic, the children will also create artwork inspired by the style of Joan Eardley, using a variety of materials and techniques.
In numeracy, we have been focusing on addition strategies within 20. We can use a range of concrete materials such as ten frames, number lines and fingers to help us find the answer.
We have really enjoyed our Nativity topic which consisted of learning the songs, waiting our turn to speak and creating props for the show. The children put in so much hard work and we are so proud of them. We hope you enjoyed the show!
We had a suprise visitor, Eddie the elf! Eddie is a special kindness elf who gives us a kindness focus every day. He then speaks to Miss Fitzpatrick at lunch time to choose who gets the chocolate from the advent calendar. He was very impressed by how kind P2F were!
We have continued to develop our sentence writing by adding further details during our Colourful Semantics lessons. In addition to who, doing, what, we have just added where by thinking carefully about the setting.
We have been working so hard on our numbers to 100. We can confidently recognise two-digit numbers and can partition them into tens and ones. We used arrow cards to help us with this.
We really enjoyed learning some Scottish country dances with Miss Comrie's class. We can't wait to practise at our Christmas party!
We really enjoyed our Castles and Knights topic. To finish it off, we created our own shields and swords and went out to the playground to protect our 'castle'. We also created our own castles using 2D shapes. We worked hard to label the features of a castle and count how many shapes we used.
Term 2 - Learning Targets
In reading, we will be focusing on:
Learning new sounds in Read, Write, Inc and using them to read and spell familiar and unfamiliar words.
Using 'Fred in your head' to help read sentences with more fluency and confidence.
Increasing our comprehension skills by answering deeper questions about a text to show further understanding.
In writing, we will be focusing on:
Basic sentence structure - we will continue to practise consistently using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
Letter formation - making sure we form single sounds correctly and write on the line.
Building on our knowledge of Colourful Semantics to create more detailed sentences. We will build on our who, doing, what sentences by adding where and when.
Applying our writing and creativity skills to create invitations for our school nativity.
In talking and listening, we will be focusing on:
Our talking and listening skills through performing in the school nativity. We will practise how to speak slowly and clearly in front of a crowd. We will also practise waiting our turn to perform.
In Numeracy, we will continue to develop our understanding of place value. We will be practising how to:
Partition two-digit numbers into tens and ones.
Order numbers to 100.
Practise number bonds to 10/20.
Learn new addition and subtraction strategies for numbers up to 100.
Alongside this, we will be learning about data handling. We will be exploring:
Tally marks
Bar graphs
Carroll diagrams
Venn diagrams
In Health and Wellbeing this term, we will be focusing on:
Continuing to develop a growth mindset
Identifying our next steps/targets
Resilience
Friendship skills
Primary 2 will also be developing their ball skills in PE. We will be focusing on:

Extending our literacy skills to create invitations and posters.
We will exploring the topic of Habitats. We will be learning about:
Living and non-living things and how they interact in their environments.
Food chains - focusing on how animals and plants depend on each other.
We will do lots of this topic through our outdoor learning with Miss Beach. We really enjoy exploring the woods as it helps us develop or resilience, curiosity and respect for our environment.
In literacy, we have been developing our comprehension skills by using our online Bug Club resource. As a class, we listen to a story together and discuss the key events before answering questions based on the text to check our understanding. We then complete a follow-up task in class to deepen our comprehension and practise applying what we have learned. Alongside this, we have been focusing on a new sound each week to help us read and spell new words.
We have enjoyed learning about 2D shapes and describing their properties. We made our own shape monsters and counted the number of each 2D shape that we used. We have also started learning about 3D shapes and we are growing in confidence when naming them.
We have also been focusing on place value, exploring numbers to 100. We have been practising different skills such as counting forwards and backwards, ordering and identifying numbers that come before, after, and in between.
We are very excited to be in our new classroom! A huge thank you to Kidzworld for letting us borrow one of their cabins until our classroom is ready to move back in. We are settling in very well and we are excited to explore our new surroundings.
