Our class Assembly has been rescheduled for Wednesday 5th March at 2.15pm. All families welcome!
Primary 5 are enjoying a very busy start to 2025!

We are reading 'The Sleekit Mr Tod' which is a Scots language adaptation of the famous and fantastic 'Fantastic Mr Fox' by Roald Dahl. We also all have a new group reader for January to continue reading for fluency at home, and in class.
In Numeracy, we are exploring Fractions and Decimals. We are consolidating our previous Fraction knowledge before moving onto more complex Fractions and Decimals work.

Primary 5 enjoyed our first week back in October!
We started our new topic and we are exploring the Global Goals. We are focusing on Goal 14: “Life Under Water”. We will be learning about how healthy oceans and seas are essential to our existence. They cover 70 percent of our planet and we rely on them for food, energy and water. Yet, humans have managed to do tremendous damage to these precious resources.
In IDL, we used oil pastels to create our own Sea Turtles for display to highlight that Sea Turtles are in danger.
In Literacy, we all have a new group reader to continue reading for fluency at home, and in class. We have started work on our Talk for Writing book project, more details to follow on this exciting project!
P5WL have enjoyed a busy month!
In Literacy, we have been developing our Comprehension skills using non-fiction texts: “Death of the Dinosaurs” and “Mary Anning: The Girl who cracked open the world”. Everyone enjoyed learning more about Geology and Palentology whilst developing our comprehension skills. We focused on adding more detail to our written responses to literal and inferential questions.
Every child also has a high quality group novel to practise reading fluency at home. A few pages each evening is all it takes!
We have also worked hard on our “Planet Zargon” imaginative recounts in Talk for Writing lessons. As per Talk for Writing programme, we chunk out writing each week. The creative ideas from P5 blow me away and I love reading the recounts! Tools for Writing, in particular punctuation, is a focus.
In Numeracy, we have developed our use of mental addition and subtraction strategies. We will revisit this throughout the year. We continue to enjoy written daily mental maths activities. Mr Logan has been exploring problem solving strategies with us on a Thursday afternoon. We are trying to transfer our Numeracy learning across to problem solving lessons.
Our IDL topic is Victorians, which has been met with great enthusiasm. We enjoyed dining like rich Victorians and poor Victorians. Some enjoyed the poor children’s diet of gruel, but EVERYONE enjoyed the cake! The children also undertook some personal choice research into an aspect of Victorian life that interested them. The focus was on reading for information and using their own words. Again, P5 did an amazing job of this and some were keen to share the presentations with the whole class. In P5 we use digital technologies often to support and motivate us.
We want our classroom to be safe, calm and pursposeful.
We will be Ready, Respectful and Safe.
