We have had such a busy and fun month!
Our photographs speak volumes. We hope you enjoy 🤩
Our visit to Blair Drummond Safari Park was a great day out. The sun shone, the picnics were delightful and our children were amazing! The children all agree that the whole day was amazing and a definite 10/10!
As part of our fundraiser we had fun on the inflatables. Thankfully the weather was sunnier than last year when we all got soaked!
In science we have been looking at the water cycle and have done some fun experiments on evaporation
For our enterprise this term we have been busy making seed bombs, grow your own sunflower kits, and planting lots of lovely plants for you all to buy. Please support us on Tuesday 3rd June and visit our P5/4W stall at the Summer Fayre

An afternoon at Tinker's Loan
Our carousel of 2D shape and 3D object activities and games
We have had a great start to the month, and the weather was most definitely in our favour when we did our nature walk along Tinker's Loan. Check out all our photographs to see what fun we had.
We have finally finished our Novel, Hetty Feather, by Jacqueline Wilson, and we loved it. We have started watching the BBC adaptation of this and we are going to compare it to the book. So far, we think we prefer the book as it has much more detail about Hetty's life before she went back to the Foundling Hospital.
In math we are looking at 2D shapes and 3D objects, and learning the properties of these. We have been really surprised at how many of these shapes and objects we see every day in out natural environment.
In literacy this term we are writing a 'Warning Tale'. So far we have written and illustrated our Story Maps and today we looked at the 'Description of 3', where we chose 3 really interesting words to describe a place, for example, a canal could be described as, 'still, dark and deep'.
What a month! Storm Eowyn literally blew us away! We have moved into our new classroom (the old lab) and luckily we did not lose too much of our work. Our new classroom is smaller, but we are enjoying the view over the fields. Much better than the rooftop of the extension.
We have started work on our Talk for Writing. This term we are writing an imaginative story, which is a warning tale. We are learning to use direct speech, similes and metaphors. The story maps we have created are awesome!
We are also researching climate change, specifically what Stirling Council have done to support global warming over the last decade. Take a look at our timeline.
In P.E. we are having loads of Fun doing circuits, and for the first time this year we have been using the climbing frames.
Happy New Year!
We have had a really busy start to the year, and have been working on our Scot's Topic, learning new poems and songs for our Scot's Assembly.
In our writing we are learning how to create comic strips, which we are all finding to be really funny and lots of fun to do. Look out for these on our class Seesaw page...
When we came back after the Christmas break we finished our math work on time and we are now working on money and budgeting.
We are also doing paired reading with a P2 class. We read with a buddy for 15 minutes each day, and it is one of our favourite things to do in literacy. This is our final week of paired reading, but we are doing it again next term with a different class.
Over the last two weeks, as part of our outdoor learning, we have been making bird feeders with Miss Hutchinson. These are now ready to be placed outdoors near the woods, but we are keeping some for next term when we start our topic on climate change and shall take some when we take a walk along Tinker's Loan to look at the flora and fauna in our local area.
That's all for now.
Miss Westmorland, and the ever-amazing P5/4W!
October has been a very busy month for P5/4W!
In groups, we created our own math games using the four operations. This highlighted the work we have done, and the new skills we have learned since returning to school in August. We made our games and then had the opportunity to play each other's games too. We had lots of fun during this activity.
Happy Halloween!
We had a fun day on Thursday doing lots of fun Halloween activities, but our favourite was dooking for apples.
In science we have been discussing 'Flu Season', and the importance of hand washing. We carried out an experiment using coloured water and lavender oil to see how far a sneeze travels if you do not cover your mouth. A sneeze travels a lot further than you think, and we could still smell the lavender oil the next morning when we came into school. We also used body glitter to enable us to see the transmission of germs from our hands. Ask me at home, and I will explain these experiments to you.
We were very lucky to be able to take part in 'Draw with Bob', an online illustration lesson with author/illustrator Bob Biddulpjh. He talked us through how to create our own illustration of a rhino. We had a huge amount of fun doing this, and we hope you love our illustrations!
