Equity

Equity at St Andrew's and St Bride's High School

Our vision is to live as a community of Faith and Learning, where people are respected, know love and experience understanding and support.

We want our pupils to feel empowered, through encouraging high aspirations, providing choice and fostering a sense of hope and service of others in line with the Gospel values that are embedded in the ethos of our school.

We are committed to tackling stigma and discrimination by ensuring equality and equity are at the heart of the support provided.

Any of our pupils can face inequity, or in other words, barriers that prevent them from attending school, having everything they need to learn in school, or being able to join in on the other parts of school - extra curricular experiences, social activities or skill and work based opportunities.

Pupil Equity Funding (PEF) was first introduced in 2017/18 to support the Scottish Attainment Challenge. This aims to achieve equity in educational outcomes for young people, ensuring that every child has the same opportunity to succeed.

The funding should be focused on activities and interventions that will lead to improvements in Literacy, Numeracy, Health and Wellbeing and Digital Literacy.

Flexibility has been built in, however, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic and as we emerge from the pandemic, the team has been reshaped and extended to help us deliver the best possible outcomes for those who require our support the most.

At St Andrew's and St Bride's High School, PEF funding is used to purchase specific products or services that will lead to improvements in Literacy, Numeracy, Health and Wellbeing and Digital Literacy. Equity is all about lifting barriers and ensuring that all the children in our care have the same opportunity to attain and succeed in achieving a positive post school destination. Equity recognises that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome.

In this newsletter, we hope to share with you the work that our PEF team are doing and to share with you the successes we have had. Your feedback and suggestions are invaluable to us and we would love to hear from you in our feedback section.
