Music

The Music Department is part of the Performing Arts Faculty and offers pupils many opportunities both in and out of the classroom to develop their skill and talents in Music and Music Technology.

In S1 and S2 pupils are given the opportunity to try various instruments including Keyboard, Tuned Percussion, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Drum Kit and Voice. In January of S1 pupils choose two instruments or one instrument and voice to focus on. Pupils are given the opportunity to perform individually, in groups and as a whole class. In addition to performing, pupils listen to a wide genre of music, learn music theory and composition, and develop their music technology skills.

Pupils are given the opportunity from S3 onwards to deepen their skills and can opt to choose Music and/or Music Technology as part of the S3 options process which leads to studying National 4 or 5 in S4. In S5 and S6 the department also offers Higher Music, Higher Music Technology, Advanced HIgher Music and work in partnership with our Faculty colleagues, to deliver a NPA in Musical Theatre.

In partnership with South Lanarkshire Council Instrumental Music Service many pupils receive tuition in Brass, Strings, Percussion, Woodwind, Guitar and Voice. Many pupils start lessons in Primary School with some commencing tuition at High School.

The Music Department is proud to offer a wide-range of extra-curricular and liturgical music opportunities and the department is busy everyday with pupils performing and developing their music and technological skills.

Performance opportunities include Prizegiving, Young Performer of the Year, Faculty Showcase, Christmas Celebration, the School Show and various Masses throughout the school year.

Pupils from the Music Department have performed in many towns and cities across Europe as part of the popular and prestigious Musical Tours. Six tours have seen visits to Belgium, France, Germany and Holland and the department looks forward to providing this opportunity once again in the future.
