20. Honorary Members

At the AGM on the 11th May 1959 it was proposed seconded and carried, “that past members who had given good service to the Society should be made Honorary members.” Two members names were placed before the meeting and elected. The founder of the Society Mr H S Jackson and Mr Abby who was also a founder member and not enjoying the best of health.

It was also agreed that Honorary membership should be added to only at very infrequent intervals. It is interesting to note that the two members names were never presented on the Society syllabus.

No further action on Honorary membership was taken until 1978. When it was agreed that “Ex Chairman and Presidents (the office latter having changed) of the Society be eligible for Honorary Vice President” and the following were elected, S E Mawer, C Ranns, Mrs M Fern and L Robinson and in 1979 Mr E W K Ranns was elected, in 1982 Mr K Chapman.

In 1986 the following Honorary Life Members were elected Mr Lofthouse, who was a founder member of the Society in 1948 and Mr A Dent, and in 1996 Mr Dent was also elected an Honorary Vice President.

The next Honorary Life Member was Wing Comd R SS Mason, MBE in 1994 in recognition of his 23 years as Packet Secretary and in 1998 Mr J Pratt, Mrs G Vickers and Mrs J Bygate.
