Mali AFROMAISON CS : Inner Niger Delta
Case Study Leader : Wetlands International
Main issue : sustainable stakeholders livelihoods (fully depending on Ecosystems services) in accordance with water level entering in Inner Niger Delta (upstream management of water and rainfall ) and Delta users conflicts reduction (mulitple uses in time and space).
WAG application : The WAG simulation platform developped for the AFROMAISON represents the territory of an imaginary village representative of the spatial configurations that can be found in the central part of the Inner Niger Delta (downscaling of the CS area). Different types of spaces according to water flow regime are included and host different types of activities depending on the season. These activities may produce many kinds of resources ( rice, vegetables, fish, wood, birds, cattle) for the villagers at different time and different place. Water flows during and after flooding are represented, as well as land degradation due to overgrazing, and population increase. Due to current socio political and rebellion issues in Mali, the Inner Niger Delta case study stakeholders meeting did not take place on time. However the IND WAG model prototype development is being carried just as in the other case studies. Wetlands International will held the first AFROMAISON stakeholders workshop in late June of 2012 and the WAG model will be discussed there.
