Puppet Play

Perseverance Puppet Play        © Jenny Jenkins 2015 https://sites.google.com/site/valueslessons Each puppet play on this website uses the same 3 puppets.

Use 'Muppet' TM type puppets with mouths you can open from inside, 1 larger headed mother, and 2 boys, one good and one naughty. Rename them, perhaps for their colour.

Or make Sock Puppets See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-mfUBQE3_s or Paper-bag Puppets -See: https://youtu.be/R-NmTMum-6I

For a simple Puppet theatre drape a piece of fabric or a sheet over a tight piece of string between 2 chairs or in an open doorway, or duck down behind a long sofa or couch.

(All pop up)

Blue  Has anyone seen my footie socks?

Mum  Where did you last see them?

Yellow   See them? You'd find them quicker if you tried to smell them!

Mum  Blue, did you put them in the laundry after last weeks game?

Blue  I can't remember.

Mum  Your game starts in half an hour. You'd better start hunting.

Blue  Would you help me, pleeeeease?

Yellow  I gotta clean my boots.

Mum  I can't, sorry. I'm making some cookies for your team after the match.

Blue  Cookies! Yum! That's okay. I'll look by myself.

Mum  Check the car first.

(All disappear.)

Narrator (from below) Ten minutes later.

(Mum and Blue pop up)

Mum  Blue, did you find your socks?

Blue  Not yet.

Mum  Where have you looked?

Blue  In the car, in my schoolbag, on my bedroom floor, in my dresser, in my wardrobe (closet), under my bed, in the laundry hamper, the washing machine, the bathroom, the shower...

Mum  Wow, you really have been persistent!

Blue  I haven't finished looking.

Mum Where else will you look?

Blue  Outside.

(They disappear)

Narrator (from below) Ten minutes later.

(Mum and Blue pop up)

Mum  Blue, you'll have to get ready or you'll be late for the game. Did you find your football socks?

Blue  Not yet.

Mum  Where did you look this time?

Blue  On the clothes line, on the roof, in the letterbox, the garden shed, the rubbish bin, the dog kennel...

Mum  Well done for persevering, Blue. But we have to go. Run and put your uniform on. You'll just have to wear your school socks instead. Oh, I forgot; you lost them last week too.

Blue  I just found them again.

Mum  Where? We looked everywhere for them.

Blue  On the roof!

Mum  How on earth did they get up there?

Blue  We were playing softball and we lost the ball so I rolled my school socks into a ball and used them instead.

Mum  And?

Blue  I hit them onto the roof and Yellow refused to get them so I punched him. Then you sent me to time out, and so I forgot about them. So, I guess it was your fault I lost them.

Mum  Are you sure, Blue?

Blue  No. It was Yellow's fault. He should have climbed up and got them.

Mum  Oh boy. Run and change into your uniform. We'll be late!

(Both disappear)

Narrator  Two minutes later.

(Mum and Blue pop up)

Mum  Blue. You found your football socks! Well done. You never gave up and you finally found them. Where were they?

Blue  Inside my dirty shorts. When I put my feet into my shorts they dropped out the leg holes.

(Yellow pops up.)

Yellow  Hey Blue, you found them. Why is there a mountain of clothes in the middle of your bedroom floor?

Blue  When I was looking for my socks, I put everything that wasn't my socks in a pile to make sure I didn't look in the same place twice.

Yellow  Why is there a dog bone on top of the pile?

Blue  I searched the dog kennel too.

Mum  Blue! It'll take you hours to put it all away. What were you thinking?

Yellow  He wasn't. What's that smell? Phewie! Your socks stink! I've gotta go outside and breathe some fresh air. I told you the easiest way to find your socks, Blue.

Blue  How?

Yellow  By using your nose!

(All disappear)
