Kindness Folktale: Aesop's Fable The Lion and the Mouse   https://sites.google.com/site/valueslessons

Once when a lion was asleep, a little mouse ran up and over him. The lion woke up, placed his huge paw upon the mouse and opened his huge jaws to swallow him. "Pardon, Oh King!" squealed the little mouse, "Please forgive me. I thought you were a hill. I won't do it again, and if you let me go I shall never forget your kindness. Who knows, but I may be able to do you a good turn one day." The lion was amused at the idea of the mouse being able to help him and, having a kind nature, he lifted up his paw and let him go.Sometime later, the lion fell into a deep pit, dug by some hunters. The hunters captured the lion and tied him up. Then they went to fetch a wagon and a cage to carry him away in. Just then the little mouse passed by, and seeing the sad, frightened lion, ran up to him.

"Oh King," the mouse squeaked. "Now I can repay your kindness." He began gnawing on the thick rope that bound the lion. Soon he had gnawed through the rope and the lion gratefully shook himself free.

"You were right," he said to the little mouse. "You certainly have repaid my kindness. Thank you." The mouse scampered away, happy to have helped the kind lion.

Discussion Questions

1. There's a saying, 'What goes around comes around.' What does this mean? (The result of things that you've done will come back to affect you.)

2. How does the story illustrate this?
