Puppet Play

Forgive Fast Puppet Play     © Jenny Jenkins 2015 https://sites.google.com/site/valueslessons Each puppet play on this website uses the same 3 puppets.

Use 'Muppet' TM type puppets with mouths you can open from inside, 1 larger headed mother, and 2 boys, one good and one naughty. Rename them, perhaps for their colour.

For a simple Puppet theatre drape a piece of fabric or a sheet over a tight piece of string between 2 chairs or in an open doorway, or duck down behind a long sofa or couch.

(Blue and Mum pop up.)

Blue  I hate Yellow! I wish I didn’t have a brother! I’m gonna kill him!

Mum  Blue! What a horrible thing to say! Yellow is a good brother.

Blue  He used to be, but not any more.

Mum  Why? What happened?

Blue  While we were down at the mall getting things for my party, he stole my two best birthday presents.

Mum  I don’t believe it!

Blue  It’s true! He stole my watch from off the windowsill, and my new bike too.

Mum  Yellow doesn’t steal.

Blue   Yeah, right! He’s probably jealous cos he hasn’t got a bike.

Mum  Stop jumping to conclusions, Blue. You shouldn’t blame people until you hear their side of the story.

Blue   I hate him! I’m gonna kill him!

Mum  You will do no such thing! Even if he has taken what belongs to you, Blue, hurting him is not going to make things any better.

Blue  It’ll make me feel better.

Mum  You need to talk to him and find out what’s going on.

Blue  He can talk to my fist.

Mum  Blue! If he's done wrong, you must forgive him.

Blue  Why should I? I hate him.

Mum  Have you ever done anything that made Yellow angry?

Blue  Course not!

Mum  Are you sure?

Blue  Well, there was that time I tried to ride his skateboard along the railway track and a train came and ran it over.

Mum  And did Yellow forgive you?

Blue  Ummm.

Mum  Did Yellow forgive you?

Blue  I guess.

Mum   And who gave you the watch for your birthday anyhow.

Blue  Ummm, Yellow did.

Mum  Then why would he want to steal it?

Blue  Dunno. Maybe I better find out what happened first, and then kill him.

Mum  You need to forgive him, Blue.

Blue  I’ll do that last.

(Yellow pops up)

Yellow  Hi everyone. Happy Birthday Blue. Here’s your present. I got it back for you.

Blue   My watch! What do you mean got it back? You stole it off me! And where’s my bike, you rotten little thief!

Yellow  No, Blue, a magpie stole your watch! I heard a noise in your bedroom. When I went in, I saw a magpie grab your watch off the windowsill and fly off with it in its beak.

Blue  Yeah, right.

Yellow  It’s true. I ran outside, jumped on your bike and followed it. It flew past the school and into a tall pine tree.

Mum  Magpies do steal bright things. What happened next Yellow?

Yellow  I climbed the pine tree, way up high, and crawled along a branch to it’s nest. It kept dive-bombing me.

Mum   Oh, Yellow. How dangerous!

Blue  Scary!

Yellow  When I got to the nest, there was your watch. Here.

Blue  Thanks. Umm...

Mum  Yes, Blue?

Blue  Sorry I thought you’d pinched it, and my bike too. You’re a cool brother.

Yellow  That’s okay.

Blue  And look what else I found in the nest!

Mum  Car keys. They must be Mr Smith's, the teacher.

Blue  He offered a fifty dollar reward for those. You’ll be able to buy a bike too!

Yellow  I’ll take them over to Mr Smith now.

Blue  Wanna borrow my bike?

Yellow  Aren’t you scared I’ll pinch it?

Blue  I’ll pinch you!

Yellow  Ow! (All disappear)

Discussion Questions

1. What does it, 'jumping to conclusions' mean?

2. People who aren't honest themselves suspect everyone else of doing the same things. Do you think Blue might have ever taken others things without asking? (probably Yellow's skateboard)

3. What good values (or character qualities) did Yellow show? (initiative, kindness, bravery, self control under provocation)

4. How did Yellow 'reap what he sowed?'
