Puppet Play

Patience Puppet Play   © Jenny Jenkins 2015            https://sites.google.com/site/valueslessonsEach puppet play on this website uses the same 3 puppets.

Use 'Muppet' TM type puppets with mouths you can open from inside, 1 larger headed mother, and 2 boys, one good and one naughty. Rename them, perhaps for their colour.

For a simple Puppet theatre drape a piece of fabric or a sheet over a tight piece of string between 2 chairs or in an open doorway, or duck down behind a long sofa or couch.

(Blue, Yellow and Mum pop up.)

Blue  Cool garden, Yellow

Yellow  Thanks, Blue. It sure took a lot of hard work though.

Blue  I wish I had my own garden

Yellow  Why?

Blue Free food!

Yellow  Here, have some pea seeds, Blue.

Blue  Yum! Thanks, I’m hungry

Yellow  Stop! Don’t eat them. Plant them in the ground and soon they’ll grow into pea plants, with lots of pods full of peas.

Blue  How soon?

Yellow  Quite soon...

Blue  Cool! Thanks yellow. I’ll let you eat all the pods. I’ll eat the peas.

Yellow  It’s all right. I’m growing my own. My pods will be ready for you to eat soon.

Blue  How soon?

Yellow   Quite soon.

Blue  I’m gonna plant these seeds right now. I’m hungry.

Yellow  You'll need to be patient, Blue.

Blue  Patients belong in hospital. I’m gonna grow my seeds NOW!

(Both disappear)

Narrator  (Invisible) Later. (Blue pops up.)

Blue  Yellow was right. Digging sure is hard work. That’ll do. Now I’ll plant my peas. (Bend over 5 times) Now seeds, start growing!

(Move across and back looking down) Now seeds, start growing

(Mum pops up.)

Mum  What’s all this noise?

Blue    My seeds won’t grow!

Mum  You need patience.

Blue  Nah! Patients belong in hospital.

Mum  Patience means waiting with a good attitude.

Blue  I’ll be a happy waiter…in a restaurant. Free food!

Mum  Anyway, you were shouting so loud that the seeds are probably too scared to grow.

Blue  My seeds? Too scared to grow?

Mum  Maybe. Leave them alone for a few days. Let the sun shine on the soil, and the rain water them, and when they’re ready, they’ll grow.

Blue  How soon?

Mum   Quite soon... (Both disappear)

Narrator That night

Blue Bother. My seeds haven't started to grow yet. They must be still afraid. Hey, maybe they’re afraid of the dark. Don’t be scared little plants. I’ll sing you a lullaby. Twinkle twinkle little star... (disappears humming)

Narrator  The next day

Blue  Seeds, what’s the matter? Why don’t you grow? Don’t be scared. I’ll tell you a story. Jack and the beanstalk. Now listen carefully and you’ll learn how seeds are supposed to grow. Once upon a time a boy called Jack lived with his poor mother. (Disappear and fade out) One day she said to Jack...

Narrator  The next day

Blue  Seeds. What’s the matter? Why don’t you grow? Don’t be scared. I’ll sing you a song. (To the tune of 'Row, row, row your boat.') Grow, grow, grow my seeds, in your garden bed. Quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, (Looks down) I hope you’re not all dead.

What shall I do? These must be the most frightened seeds in the world. (Yawn) I’m tired. I think I’ll have a rest from trying to grow these seeds. It's exhausting! (Disappears, snoring sound)

Narrator  Later.

Yellow   (pops up, looks down at seeds) Blue! Wake up! Look at your garden.

Blue  (pops up) At last! My pea seeds have stopped being afraid to grow.

Yellow  All it took was patience.

Blue  Yeah, right. It almost turned me into a mental patient!

Yellow   Patience is waiting without getting annoyed about it.

Blue  You were right. Gardening is hard work. I almost lost my voice.

Yellow  That could have been a good thing…

Blue  Wanna piece of me?

Yellow  Just kidding. (Blue head-butts him) Ow! (Yellow disappears)

Blue  Wow! My own pea plants! Soon I’ll be able to come out here to the garden, any time I like, to have a pea! (Laughs loudly) Get it? Have a pee! Ha ha ha ha! (Disappears)
