Recent Trends and Scope in Educational Research (Visual Impairment) by Dr. Paulo José Menegasso

Question: What are your recommendations for improving the standards for publishing research articles on education research?

Answer:

I think that in order to improve publications, specialized journals and journals provide more opportunities for independent researchers, not only for higher education, but also for technical, basic and technological education.

Independent research by researchers who often do not have funding produces knowledge but also does not have large space in major magazine and / or newspaper publications.

Research at technical and basic level education generally contributes to improving students' undergraduate learning by building information that facilitates them to enter research at the academy.

Question: What are your recommendations for improving the content of Education Research?

Answer:

Strengthen publications that prioritize in research the research that deals with learning in basic education, technical education and academia. Worldwide learning is a constant concern, because young people today live in a constantly changing reality and new research is needed to understand what criteria or methodology make it possible to improve student learning through motivation to achieve goals. Intrinsic motivation that comes from the desire to learn.

Question: What are your recommendations for framing the guidelines on funding Education Research?

Answer:

The priority of research that obtains funding in those that allow results to be theoretical or in case studies in which the learning of the students obtain higher levels. These indexes do not aim at the competition, but the formation of the citizen responsible and conscious of his social responsibility and with the planet, by ethics and responsibility. Research criteria that produce applicable results in society and not only for the researcher's training should also be criteria such as guidelines.

Question: How can universities produce revolutionary thesis and dissertations for doctoral and postdoctoral research on education? What are your recommendations for improving academic standards?

Answer:

The productions of theses and dissertations can become revolutionary if they have application for student learning. Investing in understanding the factors that determine learning in any country is of significant importance if it contributes with theoretical precepts and practical results that can identify learning is taking place so that results are available to all people on the planet. Knowledge built must be socialized and used for the common good of all. Revolutionary research is, in my view, those that excel at peace for the solidarity of all peoples who can suppress the deprivation of the rights of access to the goods of civilization for the good of the people. They are those that aim at the development of communities in which they have social and material demands.

Question: How can students look for jobs and career opportunities in Education Research? What are your recommendations for improving employment and scope in this sector?

Answer:

Undergraduate students must return to basic school and learn the reality in each country, thus listing information that can transform their theses into applicable knowledge in society. The productions need to be used to improve learning mainly in the basic school forming a new generation of researchers who have their eyes turned to social reality. Promoting such research means putting researchers in education with their feet on the ground where the knowledge produced in research on education makes it possible to build supportive people and improve people's learning.

Question: Anything else, would you like to share?

Answer:

The production of research aimed at contributing towards learning about the real applicability in society in every corner of the world, building knowledge that enables people to be liberated from the influences of creeds and beliefs in deities can in fact contribute to learning and building responsible and supportive citizens.

There is no point in research that does not have real applications in people's lives. The knowledge produced in education must have a single purpose which is the construction of knowledge for freedom and to improve people's lives regardless of any criterion other than for the knowledge and happiness of people anywhere on the planet, since we are all brothers all humans regardless of any country.

What is Education Research?

According to International Agency for Standards and Rating Education research is the scientific field of study that examines education and learning processes and the human attributes, interactions, organizations, and institutions that shape educational outcomes. Scholarship in the field seeks to describe, understand, and explain how learning takes place throughout a person’s life and how formal and informal contexts of education affect all forms of learning. Education research embraces the full spectrum of rigorous methods appropriate to the questions being asked and also drives the development of new tools and methods.

What are the major branches in Educational Research ?

Descriptive Education, Correlational Education and Experimental Education are major types of studies.

What is Descriptive Education ?

Descriptive studies attempt to describe things as they currently are. For example, a teacher might observe a student who is not doing well in his class and keep a record of his daily patterns.

What is Correlational Education ?

Correlational studies attempt to identify a relationship between two or more things. For example, a teacher might observe a student who seems to get up a lot to determine if he gets up at the same time, during the same subject, etc., each day.

What is Experimental Education ?

Experimental studies attempt to demonstrate a causal relationship between two or more things. They typically involve two or more groups (control group and experimental group) that are randomly assigned (people are picked at random to be in each group).

World Champion Dr. André Luis dos Santos Menezes

He holds a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ-1999), a Master's degree in Mathematics Teaching at CEFET-RJ and a PhD in Mathematical Education and Science from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUC-RS, 2017). Currently a professor at the Technical Support Foundation (FAETEC-RJ), at Unicarioca University Center and a substitute in the Department of Society, Education and Knowledge at the Federal University of Fluminense (UFF-RJ).

I have experience in Mathematics, with emphasis on Mathematics Education in Basic Education. In Higher Education, I work in teacher training with emphasis on research lines that address issues related to: new technologies for learning Mathematics, teaching methodologies and mathematics learning, development of geometric thinking and visual impairment.

In particular, I had the opportunity to meet in 2015, the project developed by the Center for Computing and Communication for the Construction of Knowledge (C5), at the University of Chile, under the responsibility of Dr. Jaime Sanchéz, who was a deterministic fact for the development of my research. Thus, a partnership was established between PUC-RS and the University of Chile, thus enabling the development of my PhD Thesis "Investigation of the Development of Geometric Thinking through the use of a Video Game by Blind Students", under the guidance of Dr. Maurivan Guntzel Ramos (PUC-RS) and Dr. Jaime Sanchéz (UCh). The thesis was inserted in the research project, Fondecyt 1150898 "Conocert (equivalent to the CNPQ), based on the use of a video game" AudioGeometria ", whose main focus was to investigate the impact cognitive aspects of the use of this resource in the development of the perceptions of geometric thinking and some cognitive elements with the use of technology. This video game was developed by a group of researchers coordinated by Professor Jaime Sánchez, from the University of Chile.

In parallel, other studies were developed to understand the meanings and concepts constructed in mathematics by students with visual impairment in a state public school in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This work was developed with Dr. Paulo Menegasso, who works with Chemistry teaching at a school in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, as a result of the inclusion process of students with visual impairment inserted in regular classes in High School. The investigation took place with experimental classes, where it was possible to investigate the construction of concepts and meanings in Chemistry and Mathematics through the construction and analysis of mental maps.

I have currently participated in researches and studies focused on the geometric perceptions of students with visual impairment and the use of new technologies and methodologies, with their implications in teacher training and pedagogical practice.
