KWV Cathedral Cellar Merlot 2006

Although I am not overly fond of Merlots in general, I genuinely enjoyed this Merlot from Cathedral Cellar. It has a very pleasant woody smell to the nose, complemented by sweet and strong berries. Taking a sip the oak flavour is continued, together with strong berries and a slight acidity and alcohol, that blends really well with the other flavours. Slightly tannic, again balanced very well with the other flavours. A tail that lingers fairly long with an interesting bite, long enough to keep the mind occupied and thinking about the next sip. This wine goes down well, and is certainly the best Merlot I have had so far!
