Grades, grades, grades (and assignments):
Hola Muchachos,
In a nutshell, the 2021-22 grading plan for Spanish is as follows:
30% Presentational Spanish
This is when there is no back and forth. Examples include a speech, a summary, or a writing prompt.
30% Interpersonal Spanish
This when there is back and forth. Examples include a discussion, responding to a question AND following up, some form of interview.
30% Interpretive Spanish
This is when you are showing what you understand from a prompt. It could be answering comprehension questions about something you read/heard or explaining what you understand about it.
10% Other
This is where any kind of traditional grammar or vocabulary assessment would fall. The AP website project will likely fall primarily into this category as well.
Retakes...
As language learning is based on skills and not individual objectives that can be easily checked off, students will be given the opportunity to improve their score within each skill category at the end of the quarter by means of a "skill recovery assessment."
Students who feel they can demonstrate a higher level of proficiency for any mode of communication than what is reflected in PowerSchools will be provided that opportunity at the END of the quarter.
The grade will be entered into PowerSchools as a replacement for the corresponding category/categories. Students should only take the assessments if they prepare. The assessments are OPTIONAL. The assessments are a representative summary of the work done over the course of the quarter.
Late Work...
Assignments that are not turned in on time are entered as a 0 in Powerschools as a placeholder. Late work will be accepted within the quarter up until the "No later than" date set by Maestro David. The protocol for getting late work checked is to send me an email with the name of the late assignment as it appears in powerschools and the date it was due in addition to letting me know if you submitted it electronically (google classroom or email) or in-person (a physical paper). You must also let me know the date you submitted the late work if it is an email.
Final Exam
The final exam is 20% of the end of year grade. First semester is 40% and second semester is 40%.
