亚军清江二人,离开黄石公园,北上途中遇野牛,有文字照片记录。
We left Grand Canyon this morning and drove out of the Park's Northeast Entrance and then northeastward along US Highway 212 to Helena for the highway's alpine landscape (3200 m above sea level according to Yajun's Casio watch) and superb views of the living glaciers on nearby mountains that are at the same altitude. On our way we encountered herds of wild American buffalo (bison), as we did the day before. Some loners, usually the bulls, were merely half a meter from you Qingjiang and we both just held our breath in the car lest we might've surprised the bulls which might then attack our vehicle. And with Yajun's right foot on the gas pedal he got himself so prepared that he could set the car rushing forward for escape in a fraction of a second if he ever sensed a hint of the bull's imminent attack.
Qingjiang had also recorded with her camcorder a giant bull lumbering along the center stripes of the highway towards us and in a moment Yajun was thinking to himself, "Well, this is it: our vehicle is definitely to be destroyed by him." But miraculously the bull approached our car at a distance of about 20-30 cm, and then seemed to have thought it better and turned his head away from the front of our car and lumbered leisurely down the highway to the prairie (see the only picture your Qingjiang took of him). (Because the camera clicks when a picture is taken we were afraid the sound of click might surprise the bull.)
