The University of Texas at Austin will stop using a algorithm based program called GRADE an acronym for GRaduate ADmissions Evaluator due to it being "Encoded by Humans and Humans are encoding their own biases into these algorithms,” Encoded The Article went on to say that "its critics -- concerned about diversity, equity and fairness in admissions -- say it should never have been used in the first place." Similarities to the Cogscreen are that GRADE was developed as a "time saver" for the evaluators by using algorithm to "red flag" test takers that do not pass certain arbitrary thresholds that are more based on biases of the programmers feeling that there is a hard correlation between not meeting the test threshold and real world performance. It was determined that there was no hard correlation between being red flagged by grade and not having sucress in the University of Texas PhD Program. Another similarity between Cogscreen and GRADE was that they were bother projects of graduate students and their prediction of rate of success or failure in real life based on the test score came from a very small sample size. https://www.insidehighered.com/admissions/article/2020/12/14/u-texas-will-stop-using-controversial-algorithm-evaluate-phd
The University of California has stopped using the SAT and ACT in their admissions process calling it a failed 50 year experiment at whether “(1) the test improved prediction of freshman grades; (2) it could be used to assess grade inflation; and (3) it could be used to help manage enrollment growth.” After 50 years, the University seems to have concluded that the answer to at least two of those is no. https://www.forbes.com/sites/akilbello/2021/11/24/after-50-years-the-university-of-california-is-done-with-the-sat-experiment/
