Second Generation Pilot Fighting For Reform To The FAA Aeromedical Division

Emma Laczko, a second generation pilot, has taken her fight to reform the FAA Aeromedical Division which she blames for the deaths of both her father and uncle who were professional airline pilots.

Emma has documented that the policies of the FAA Aeromedical Division are so severe that any documented medical issues could be grounds for revocation of a pilot's medical certificate. Her father avoided having a diagnosis of his heart condition for years to avoid having to state this on his FAA medical. No formal diagnosis technically isn't lying on the medical. When he finally sought treatment, not only did he lose his medical, because he waited to long, his heart condition cost him his life. Emma's uncle also had undiagnosed depression, which if diagnosed and had sought treatment would have also cost him his medical. Her uncle eventually committed suicide.

Emma has started a podcast called "The Pilot's Pandemic" in an effort to gain support, especially from pilots for real reform on the FAA Aeromedical Division to get its policies out of the 1950s

Emma also created an organization called "Human Rights For Pilots" to advocate for this reform. The FAA's current policy punishes pilots for seeking medical treatment like any other citizen and in fact makes the skies less safe due to pilots avoiding seeing doctors which could turn their afflictions into ticking time bombs.

Emma also created a petition for anyone to sign that supports medical reform for pilots
