Senior HIMS AME Dr. Brent Blue MD states that the medical profession has been unsuccessful in predicting "Sudden Incapacitation"
with any bit of accuracy and the medical profession has "failed at it" so there is no reason the FAA would have any success. Dr. Blue feels that issuing medicals is not making the skies any safer.
Dr. Blue remains a critic of the Aeromedical Process by calling this out in front of Federal Air Surgeon Dr. Susan Northrup at an AOPA sponsored symposium on pilot mental health at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2022. Dr. Blue said the entire process is archaic and the use of the Cogscreen is inappropriate and pilots should not be forced to use the FAA's hand picked psychologists and psychiatrists which without directly stating it admits the FAA's hard picked 3rd party quacks are biased against the pilots. 7 min 41 seconds https://youtu.be/iNWhpl4DtmA?t=461 to which Northrup was slow to respond too
The Pilot's Bill or Rights which was passed Sen. Inhofe has passed through Congress in 2012 https://www.inhofe.senate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/inhofes-pilots-bill-of-rights-becomes-law#:~:text=The%20bill%20requires%20a%20GAO,of%20intentional%20falsification%20against%20pilots. Which required the General Accountability Office to review the FAA medical certification process and requires the FAA to act on the GAOs recommendations within a year. The GAO outlines a number of problems in 2014 in confusion or reporting that however have not been fixed to this day. In fact if anything it had opposite effect where the FAA made the way past medical history a bigger trap to screw over pilots. The report also has stated that a greater number of previous required deferrals by Aviation Medical Examiners or AMEs should now be allowed to be granted a standard issue medical by the AME https://www.gao.gov/products/gao-14-330 However evidence shows that the FAA still has by and large not updated their policy which Dr. Blue calls out at 25 min 26 seconds. https://youtu.be/iNWhpl4DtmA?t=1526
