On February 7, 2014, I interviewed an elderly Mo Piu (m̥əŋ⁵⁵mpjo⁵⁵) man surnamed Vàng in Nậm Tu Hạ, huyện Văn Bàn, Lao Cai province, Vietnam.

My conclusion is that Mo Piu is most similar to Southern Guiyang Miao, although it does not not belong to Southern Guiyang Miao proper. Instead, it formed part of a linkage with Southern Guiyang Miao, since some Mo Piu features are not found in Southern Guiyang Miao (Wangjiashan 汪家山 dialect of Anshun), but instead in Central Guiyang Miao (Hongyan 红岩 and Tuanpo 团坡 dialects of Ziyun).
