This section contains a "crash course" in the basics of Vehicle Dynamics and Powertrain. All content and structure was originally developed by one of the authors from academic assignments through to hobbies and vehicle projects to have notes quickly available online and avert the risk of losing data on hard-drives, USB memory or paper.
The topics are presented here as a starting point to stimulate further work or literature research. Experienced engineers will find limits to these topics and may prefer to look in the reference books and academic papers.
Click on the links in the tree structure on the left to navigate through the different sections.
The topics in this site will relate in various ways to:
- Race and trackside support
- Tyre performance and suspension setup optimization
- Damper curve generation, analysis, and optimization
- Lap-Time improvement via damper tuning
- Pajecka tyre model, weight transfer and derivatives analysis
- straight-line performance analysis
- Suspension kinematics and multibody dynamics (quarter car, half car etc)
- quasi-static lap time simulation model (Excel, MATLAB etc)
- Signal sampling, filtering, and processing
