UH08 was the first project where Chris designed and manufactured multiple assemblies of a small racing car: front suspension uprights, front hubs, front braking system, pedal box, fuel tank, front crash structure. A small team of less than 10 students completed engine build, engine control calibration, chassis design and manufacture, seat manufacture, suspension geometry, electrical wiring, composite lay-up, data logger. Chris was responsible for obtaining sponsorship from BAE SYSTEMS while other members of the team secured sponsorship from Loctite and several UK brands.
The vehicle successfully competed in 2005 in the UK Formula Student, 2006 in USA Formula SAE (Romeo, Michigan) and was modified by John Goddard and James Waters for entry as a hydrogen powered race car.
