Very few photos can truly explain the emotions that we all felt when Eliud crossed the line 20 seconds under the 2 hour mark. But two in particular capture the moment when he pointed in the direction of all the people who had helped him achieve this moment in history to thank them. It's still sinking in for him and for us as well, for whom it was impossible to hold back the tears after the short sleep and the worry of what might possibly go wrong in the pacing cars. We would have cried if he'd missed the mark and we cried like children when he smashed it.
I didn't sleep particularly well on friday night and I was nervous while sat in the co-driver (data engineer) seat of Car 2 at 8:10 am. We'd prepared with obsessive detail but would it be enough? In the end his exceptional training allowed him a 10+ seconds buffer and to say our cars ran like an atomic clock is not an understatement. Thank you Eliud for leading by example by infecting us with self belief, thank you Jamie Lowrie for writing excellent code, thank you to the drivers and engineers, thank you Sir Dave Brailsford for being so upbeat about the chances of this being a success on the first ever meeting. I've experienced many joyful moments in life and I think this is one that I will never forget.
Some say "Never meet your heroes, to avoid disappointment" but I ignored that and went over to congratulate him. Dave Brailsford explained our involvement in preparing the code and running the Audi e-Tron cars that paced him at exactly 2:50.40 s/km. Eliud was as humble and thankful as always. We spend the sunday cheering his name through the centre of Vienna. Unforgettable.

A very intelligent man, not always one to be feared. In another interview when asked what one feels when losing a driver, his slow response is "L'allucinante fragilita' della vita", "The frightening fragility of life".

April 2018 - Williams Advanced Engineering vehicle platform (Vehicle Dynamics International)
Williams Advanced Engineering has developed an innovative electric vehicle platform concept. Named FW-EVX, the lightweight and compact chassis is readily scalable for C, C-D and D-segment vehicles. According to the company, in a typical C-segment application, the platform weighs 955kg, including an all-round wishbone suspension, up to four motors, a 4WD transmission and a steering system.
This weight also includes a 350kg, 80kWh lithium-ion battery pack, a high-strength module that contributes to the vehicle structure as the aluminum base plate is bolted directly to the thermally conductive vehicle floor.
The bonded aluminum and carbon composite center module of the FW-EVX platform includes chassis side rails that create controlled crush zones for impact absorption. These side rails serve a dual function, as they also provide cooling air for the battery pack, collected through ducts at the front of the vehicle, which helps minimize both the vehicle frontal area and the aerodynamic drag that can be created by heat exchangers. The sills channel cooling air through internal radiators then direct it toward the rear of the vehicle to create downforce via an aerodynamic diffuser.
March 2018 - Clearmotion expansion (Vehicle Dynamics International)
US-based ClearMotion is expanding its testing operations to the UK, and has set up a workshop at MIRA Technology Park. ClearMotion is a technology company that is developing a proactive ride system which replaces shock absorbers with a predictive road-sensing software and actuation system that pulls and pushes wheels to mitigate vehicle movement across terrain. The MIRA facility, which includes ride and handling circuits, will be an integral part of ClearMotion’s R&D process and will be the company’s main European test centre.
