TEACHERS’ FIRST CLASS PROTOCOL
Class # 1 is our first contact with students, and it is an opportunity to provide a preview of our lessons. We don’t get a second chance to make a first impression which will last for a long time.
Arrive early. Set up the necessary equipment before you start the class.
Write your full name with your personal title, the course name (e.g. Ms. Carla Ritz, A2.2), and your email address.
Greet your students enthusiastically.
Introduce yourself.
Make sure that your students are in the right room (check the list and the invoice with the bank seal).
Give your students instructions about how and when to communicate with you (e.g. email).
Mention the most important class rules –attendance, punctuality, grades as well as percentages, and the constant use of English in class- and explain that the rest of them will be sent via email.
Describe the workload of the course, the number of quizzes, exams, projects, and books to read, and talk about the work they have to do in the virtual platform (check if your program includes this platform). Talk about your strategies in class.
In level A1.1, spend 15 minutes teaching a set of learning strategies (provided by the Coordination) that are very helpful for students.
10. This applies only to Intensive and Semi-intensive programs: Explain the option they have to attend another lesson in a different schedule when they cannot come to their official group. Mention the restriction.
11. Become aware of your student’s weaknesses and strengths by using communicative activities (different from tests) and build up a mediation process based on them.
12. Create, promote, and keep a positive atmosphere (quality, kindness, righteousness, equity).
