An Interview with Deacon Jebediah Pelfeld. Chief Inquisitor of Christ, First National Church of Jackson.
“Sir. Thank you for sitting for this interview. The audience of the Raleigh Gazette will find our conversation enlightening.”
“Its a pleasure James.”
“Firstly, for the kids, would you mind do a quick overview of the tenets of the Faith?”
*chuckling*
“Of course. The short form would be simple: first the God of the Israelites gave the basic Commandments of what would become the foundation of most ‘Religions of the Book’ to the Prophet Moses. Then Came Christ the Lamb, who showed us the Path of Redemption and how we could be saved for our sins. Finally came Christ the Lion who ascended the Righteous and left those who had not earned a place by his side in the Rapture here in the mortal realm. We are the descendants of those unworthy, and it is incumbent upon us to prove we are worthy of a second Redemption.”
“And how will that second Redemption come about?”
“In what way? Quite simply James. Really, we must prove we can learn from our Mistakes! This gets into the credo of the Post Rapture communion; namely strive to better oneself in the eyes of God. To not profane his works with hubris. To not suffer the works of the Fallen. And to educate those who have strayed when possible, or purge those who willfully lapse into being Fallen.”
“Can you elaborate Sir?”
“I can present a present case to illustrate the matter. Many of us know or have seen hints of the wonders of the Old world. But one must remember those wonders allowed the ancients to lapse into an idolatry of their own works. But even more insidious, the Rapture allowed Lucifer to once again to have a hand in the world, much like the Old Testament. Now the Righteous are tested not only by their own conscious, but directly through insidious works and knowledge. Not to far from here there was a lovely hamlet inhabited by a Warlock who had gained power from a Grimoire. This Grimoire gave him great power over his fellow man. Soon he had willing women, wealth, and a carefree life.”
“Sir, many would say that sounds like paradise.”
“As they should James, as they should. But this paradise came with a steep cost. The ease by which it was created fermented Envy, Slovenliness, Debauchery. Soon there was open conflicts with the neighboring hamlets; daughters raped and kidnapped, sons murdered. All to state the insatiable appetite of the Warlock. But, once touched by Lucifer, there is no sating the addiction for evil. It only grows like a vile mold until nothing by foulness remains.”
“This is why when the Inquisitors must act so ardently in defense of the Innocent. To allow the seed of this filth to spread would be a greater sin. For once the seed germinates there is no Redemption - only the damnation of the Fallen.”
“So does it pain us to cleanse a Croft or a Hamlet once Evil is exposed? Of course. We are human. We wish we could heal. To cure. To save, as the Ancients believed. But that world died. And once a demon is let loose the soul is devoured. It is far better to burn an infection to its roots then to allow it to continue like a weed.”
“This is why we are so harsh with the Fallen. With the Idolaters of Technology. With the Damned of places like Lost Vegas. We must, if we are to have any hope of being smiled upon in the hereafter. The Lamb gave Humanity our chance at Redemption. Now we must strive under the gaze of the Lion if there is to be hope for our children.”
“Amen Deacon. Amen.”
