Venus

Venus is Sol Systems long-term project. In 2120 Venus had a population of about 2,500 researchers at the Planetia Venutia space station studying the effects of 'greenhouse gasses'. The theory was perhaps if we understood Venus, we could understand Global Warming on Earth. Nuclear winter changed all of that. The Venus science stations were woefully unequipped to help with disaster relief after the war.

Venus of today is not an independent world. Rather it is a project funded by most major Sol system corporations with major funding also coming from the ICC. Massive fusion terraforming stations are monitored from orbit as scientists' attempts the largest engineering project in the history of mankind. If successful, Sol will have three instead of two terrestrial planets, allowing for massive population expansion and support.

Stage one of this project has been completed: the seeding of the planet with microbes that can survive the hostile conditions that will reduce CO2 levels over the next century. This will lead to a gradual reduction in the surface temperature of the planet to reasonable levels.
