July had more light air days than we had hoped, however our sailors made the best of it and managed to race whenever possible. On July 15, with the Mackey's as our officials, Rich Miner and Brent Cherry went head to head in a 6 mph wind sailing two races in a seven leg, triangle course. Rich took first place in both events. Constance Gill went out in her Snipe but was a DNF.

The Okners (Don, Marty and Lukas) ran the races on July 22. The weather was partly cloudy and the wind direction was out of the east southeast at 8 mph and shifty. Three Snipes competed in two races with Tim Mackey capturing two firsts and Chris Mackey taking second place in both events. Constance Gill was a DNF after making a good attempt to brave the erratic conditions.

July 29 brought light and variable wind from the west that curled around Manitou Island. Joe Fleming and son Joe set a triangle, seven leg course. Three Lightnings and two Snipes raced. In the Lightnings, Brent Cherry was first in race one and second in race two. Perry Anderson came in second in the first race and first in the second race. Don Okner, with Hank Jelinek crewing, was third in the first race and did not sail the second. Tim Mackey won both races in the Snipe Fleet. Chris Mackey was second in race one and a DNF in race two.

The 2018 Junior Sailing School has ended with a group of youngsters having successfully completed the program. These boys and girls, shown in the photo with our instructors, have learned the basics of sailing. These are skills that will last a lifetime and that will enable the graduates to enjoy the sport of sailing for years to come.
