July 4 was a busy day for our club. In the morning, unfazed by the rain, our juniors participated in the Sparta Independence Day Parade with their "Kids Sail" float. In the early evening, after the sky cleared, we held our annual Independence Day party which ended with a great view of the fireworks over the lake. July 5 was the scheduled day for the Marine Base Regatta. John and Margie Incantalupo were ready to set a course as our officials for the event and sailors were eager to race. But, alas there was no wind so the event was postponed. And, the following Sunday, also brought little wind and yet another cancellation.

Jack Robertson Cruising Day was held on July 19 and a group gathered to reminisce and drink a champagne a toast in Jack's memory. Howard Gooblar rigged his Snipe and cruised on our beautiful lake with new member Brent Cherry. Ian Oldridge captured this great image of them. We welcome Brent, his wife Janel and children Sienna and Carson to our club.

On July 20 we were finally able to get back on the race course for the Marine Base Regatta. Hank Jelinek, our race official, set an Olympic Course in a 6 to 8 knot wind and six boats competed in two races. Perry Anderson, in a Lightning, won the regatta followed by John Marx sailing a Snipe and Peter Breiling, racing a Lightning, taking third place.

There were no races on July 26 but the competition resumed on August 2 with the Lightnings sailing two races and the Snipes racing once. Perry Anderson took two firsts followed by Peter Breiling in the Lightning fleet and in the Snipe fleet, Haley Chute came in first with Howard Gooblar a DNF due to an equipment failure.
