July was a good month for the LMYC. On July 4, we held our annual Independence Day Party for which we thank all those who planned and ran the event; and, on July 6 we held our Marine Base Regatta. Two races were sailed in this handicapped event in which three Snipes and two Lightnings competed. The Encks went over but managed to finish the first race. In the end, Richard Miner took first place and Jeff Urbanski, in a club Snipe, taking second. Despite a DNS in the first race, Don Okner managed to come in third. Thanks to John and Margie Incantalupo for serving as our race officials.

There was no racing on July 13 because the work on our “T” dock interfered with our ability to use our facilities; but, by July 20 one hoist was free so we were able to have two races in which four Lightnings raced. Rich Miner was won the first race with Don Okner taking second and Chuck third. In the second race, Rich Miner captured another first followed by Perry Anderson in second place and Chuck Chute in third position followed by Don Okner in fourth place.

July 27 brought more good wind and three Lightnings competed. With Chuck Chute as our official, we sailed two races with Rich Miner first, Perry Anderson second and Don Okner third in both events. The following week, August 3, was a light air day but the Snipes managed to get in one race with John Marx in first position followed by Constance Gill taking a second and Howard Gooblar, making a much appreciated return, in third place. August 10 brought more of the doldrums forcing cancellation of racing for all fleets.

Our Munity Regatta /Jack Robertson Cruising Day was held on August 2. This was a great event, organized by Pirate Constance Gill, in which crew took over the boats of the skippers. Junior Sailing School ended on August 1. We extend our congratulations to those who completed the program and graduated from the program we thank our instructors, Haley Chute and Matt Gomez, for jobs well done.. August also brought some new family members to our club. We welcome Ben and Amy DelCoro and their sons Anthony and Brendan, Paul and Beth Hughes and son Moses as well as Suzanne Cummings and her children Daniel, Jack, Michael and Katherine.

Finally, here's the schedule of remaining special events for 2014. Please note the new, Saturday, date for the Commodore's Cup Regatta and the Commodore's Party:
