We start off by welcoming some new, family members to our club. They are Peter & Molly Breiling and their children, John and Kathryn. John participated in the Junior Sailing Program, Level 1. So he's on his way to becoming a skipper some day.

On July 14 we had a very good, southwest wind that gave the Lightnings two opportunities to race. Chuck Chute and Dave Newton were the race officials and, in both races, Rich Miner came in first with Perry Anderson second and Don Okner third. There were no races on July 21 and July 28.

On July 27 we held our Mutiny Regatta, organized by Constance Gill. There was one race with 5 Sunfish on the line. Since it was a Mutiny, the less experienced sailor was the skipper. We had over 40 attendees. The weather was perfect and the wind was great for the race. In First Place Advanced were Hannah Chute, Skipper and Haley Chute, Crew. The other results were First Place: Paulina Enck, Skipper and Robert Enck, Crew; Second Place: Delia Ammeter, Skipper and Matthew Gomez, Crew; Third Place: Erin Fiorella, Skipper and Christopher Mackey, Crew; and, Fourth Place: A.J. Demski, Skipper and Kevin Johnson, Crew.

The Highest-Placing Sibling/Sibling Advanced Sunfish Sailing Team was: Hannah Chute, Skipper and Haley Chute, Crew with Highest-Placing Sibling/Sibling Sunfish Sailing Team: Paulina Enck, Skipper and Robert Enck, Crew. The Highest-Placing Unrelated Skipper/Crew Sailing Team was: Delia Ammaturo, Skipper and Matthew Gomez, Crew and the Highest-Placing First-Time Mutineers Sailing Team: Paulina Enck, Skipper and Robert Enck, Crew; The Highest-Placing First-Time Skipper was: Paulina Enck; and, the Youngest Participating Skipper: A.J. Demski.

The Moby Dick Paddle Relay winning team included Kaetana DeGiovanni, Nolan Kafafian, Peter Komosinski, Ashley Potts, Caroline Potts, Trevor Potts and Emily Tighe. There were more events, too numerous to list in this article. It suffices to say that a great time was had by all who attended. Many thanks to Constance Gill for running this event!

Here are some dates to note for September and the months that follow: Commodore’s Cup Regatta and Party – September 1; Finish Line Party – October 26; Awards Banquet – December 1.

We offer adult and individual sailing lessons for those who are interested. And, if you are looking for great gifts for a sailor or for yourself, you can order shirts and gear with our logo through the club. Also, to help raise funds for the Junior Sailing Program, Haley Chute had bags made from sails. They are available at Cathy Chute's Lake Mohawk Flower Shop in the plaza.

You can visit us on the web at www.lakemohawksailing.org. For more information about membership in the LMYC or, if you want to learn to sail, just call our Vice Commodore, Perry Anderson at (973)729-3904, email us at lakemohawksailing@gmail.com or write to us care of PO Box 29, Sparta, NJ 07871.

Until next month, smooth sailing

and God bless America,

Don Okner
