We welcome aboard new family members Glenda and Lee Haase who are taking adult sailing lessons and enjoying some of our social events. We also bid farewell to the Kaskins who have moved and we thank Ken for the generous donation of his Snipe for our adult sailors to use. One of the many advantages of being in the LMYC is the opportunity for qualified sailors to use one of our club owned Sunfish or Snipes. And if you don't know how to sail or need to brush up on your skills, we offer adult sailing lessons and will try to accommodate your schedule. Contact Angela Hopkins at (973) 729-2432 for more information.

The Mutiny Regatta was a great success. There were sailing races, with junior crew members at the helm as well as fun events including walking the plank off of Mark Marussich's Cat Boat, dubbed “The Bounty” for the event. In the racing the final results were as follows:

ñ Sunfish

◦ First Place: Joilin Gomez and Gail Miner

◦ Second Place: Christopher Mackey and Matt Gomez (Race 1); Hank Jelinek (Race 2)

◦ Third Place: Caroline Potts and Ken Potts

ñ Snipe

◦ First Place: Hannah Chute

◦ Second Place: Lucas Baumgartner and Carla DiPierro

◦ Also competed (but did not qualify): Chuck Chute and Alex

Special Sailing Awards went to the Youngest Winning Skipper, Sunfish: Joilin Gomez, Youngest Winning Skipper, Snipe: Hannah Chute, Highest Placing Un-Related Skipper and Crew, Sunfish: Joilin Gomez and Gail Miner and Highest Placing Un-Related Skipper and Crew, Snipe: Lucas Baumgartner and Carla DiPierro. Fun & Games Winners included Walk-the-Plank Best Technique, Girls: Caroline Potts; Best Technique, Boys: Christopher Mackey as well as Poised Under Pressure: Morgan Potts and Most Acrobatic: Hannah Chute. The Best Period Costume went to Ashley Potts.

Thanks go to Perry Anderson and Rich Miner for taking Race Committee duty for the two races and to Captain Mark Marussich and First Mate Ken Potts who commanded "The Bounty." They made the "condemned ones" paddle the ship to their own demise. Then Mark and Ken presided over the Walk-the-Plank. The first thing that happened, though, was the mutineers drove the Captain off the ship at sword point. Then the tables were turned, and it was the mutineers who walked the plank, quite willingly as it turned out. Thanks also to Gail Miner who judged the Walk-the-Plank technique again this year and to Cathy and Chuck Chute pitched in wherever needed, as they always do.

On July 17th four Lightnings competed in good wind out of the southwest that gave us two races. Rich Miner captured two more firsts with Don Okner taking a third and a second, Perry Anderson a second and a fourth and Hank Jelinek a fourth and a third. Unfortunately, July 24th and 31st resulted in cancellations due to lack of wind. This brought us to the end of the Spring Series with only 9 races sailed - almost a record low number due to light winds on Sundays. The results for the series are 1st: Rich Miner with Gail Miner and Ken Potts: 2nd: Perry Anderson with Margaret Anderson and several crew who contributed; 3rd: Don Okner, also with crew Ed Snook and Matt Gomez/Michael Mackey. Chuck Chute, Hank Jelinek & Bill Beveridge also sailed but not enough to qualify.

The Fall Series for Lightnings began on Aug. 7th. Rain into the morning plus a bad forecast for the day was not promising but the weather broke and Rich Miner, Chuck Chute and Hank Jelinek competed in two races in light to moderate air out of the southwest with Rich over the line first in both races followed by Chuck and Hank in that order.
