Fall is here but, the LMYC is still sailing with our last, official races scheduled for Oct. 8th. Our Commodore’s Cup Regatta and Party were postponed for one week and held on Sept. 8th. Results will be announced in next month’s Papoose. In the meantime, here’s a look at how racing went in July and August.

July 14th brought four Lightnings to the line. Tim and Chris Mackey were our officials for two races. The course was a triangle in a WSW wind that ranged from 3 to 10 mph—not unusual for Lake Mohawk. Perry Anderson led the way with two firsts, followed by Rich Miner, Joe Fleming and Karl Hauck in that order.

On July 28th, Tim Mackey, once again, served as our race official. It was a clear day with an 8 to 9 mph wind out of the south. Rich Miner and Karl Hauck match raced their Lightnings with Rich taking first place and Karl second in two races. Chris Mackey sailed a Snipe in both races.

Constance Gill was race official on August 4th as Joe Fleming and Karl Hauck went head to head in their Lightnings. The wind was light but enough for two races on a windward-leeward course. Joe won race one and Karl won the second race. While no boats raced on August 11th and 18th, Lightnings and Snipes were on the course for two races on Aug. 25th. The race official was Hank Jelinek as Rich Miner too two firsts over Karl Hauck and Chris Mackey did the same, going head to head against his dad, Tim.

August ended with a bitter sweet event. Constance Gill hosted a gathering at her charming cottage to remember long time LMYC member, John J. Marx, who passed away on January 27, 2019. John’s daughter Joanne and some former members joined us as we reminisced and bid John a formal, LMYC goodbye. John will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Race official assignments for the balance of our 2019 racing season are as follows: Oct. 06th D. Okner; Oct. 13th TBA or R. Miner.

Remember, the LMYC is open to any LMCC members who are interested in sailing. Plan to join us! For more information, you can visit us on the web at www.lakemohawksailing.org . Also, you can email us at lakemohawksailing@gmail.com , or write to us care of PO Box 29, Sparta, NJ.
