We had another successful Junior Sailing Program this summer. Pictured are the graduates along with our instructors. It’s great to know that the sport of sailing will continue to be enjoyed by these young people for many years to come.

Our Fall Series of racing began on August 9 with Rich and Gail Miner running the races. Three fleets competed in one race in a 6 mph wind out of the northeast. Perry Anderson took a first over Peter Breiling in the Lightnings and John Marx won in the Snipe fleet with Constance Gill in second place. The Mackeys went head to head with Tim prevailing in a Laser.

August 16 brought four Lightnings to the race course, with Don Okner serving as race official. The wind was variable for the first race that ended in a bit of a drifter. Perry Anderson took a first followed by Rich Miner second, Joe Fleming third and Peter Breiling fourth. By the start of the second race, in which two boats competed, the wind blew more steadily out of the south west. Perry Anderson came in first and Peter Breiling was second.

Our old committee boat finally gave out so, with the able assistance of Drew from the Lake Mohawk Marina, we acquired "new to us" Boston Whaler that was outfitted and ready for August 23. But, alas, light and variable wind forced a cancellation of racing for that day. The wind picked up on Aug. 30 with Perry Anderson, accompanied by Don Okner, running the races. The Lightnings raced twice with Rich Miner taking two firsts over Joe Fleming. In the Snipe fleet, John Marx took first place with Constance Gill second.

The Commodore’s Cup Regatta followed by the Commodore’s Cocktail Party at the Miner residence were scheduled for Sept. 5, 2014, after this article went to press. So stay tuned for more about those events in next month’s Papoose.
