November 2008 Papoose Article

Post date: Dec 2, 2008 12:45:43 AM

While September and October are usually great sailing months on Lake Mohawk with good wind and crisp, sunny days, this year was the exception to the rule. Although we were scheduled to sail through October 12th, our last races for the year were on September 14th due to the lack of wind on the following four Sundays.

So, while we went through the Spring series with no cancellations, the Fall series had eight cancellations. Nonetheless, 2008 was a great year that brought new members to our club, new crew on board some of our boats, new junior sailors and upgrades to our facilities that will serve us now and well into the future. Also, it was a great year for social events both planned and impromptu.

The Fall series in the Lightning class ended with Rich Miner and his crew Gail Miner and Edgar Braendle in first place and with Perry Anderson and crew Margaret Anderson and James Nam in second place. Chuck Chute and his crew, Dave Newton captured third place in the series. The Snipes sail a combined series and, for 2008, Jeff Urbanski came in first, followed by John Marx and Constance Gill in second and third place, respectively.

On October 18th we had our Finish Line Party and Annual Meeting at which our officers for 2009 were elected. Our Commodore will be Perry Anderson with Rich Miner serving as Vice Commodore, John Incantalupo as Rear Commodore, Margie Incantalupo as Treasurer and Jan Oldridge as Secretary. The Lightining Fleet Captain will be Hank Jelinek with Constance Gill serving as Snipe Fleet Captain and John Miller as Captain of our Laser Fleet. Our final event, the Annual Awards Brunch, will be held on November 23rd at which time fleet championships will be announced and trophies presented.
